Changing from a student stay to residence and work: where do I get the certificate that I had no scholarship?
You may not need it. If you are changing from a student stay to residence and work, whether you have to prove you had no scholarship depends on which regulation your student stay was granted under.
1. You may not need it
Criterio de Gestión 10/2025 (Dirección General de Gestión Migratoria, published 5 Jan 2026) says offices must not require this proof if your student stay was granted under the old regulation (RD 557/2011), roughly before 20 May 2025. If you are asked for it, cite Criterio 10/2025.
2. If it applies to you
If your student stay was granted under the new regulation (RD 1155/2024, art. 190), you need two things.
- First, a certificate from AECID (the Spanish cooperation agency). Email becasmae at aecid.es with your full name, nationality, passport number, NIE and postal address.
- Second, a certificate from the authorities of your home country, or your embassy, saying you were not a scholar. If they cannot issue one: a note from the embassy explaining why, plus a sworn statement (declaración jurada) that you received no scholarship.
