Documents & getting started
Can I travel to the Philippines while my TIE is being renewed? (autorización de regreso)
Yes, with an autorización de regreso — a return authorisation from the Policía Nacional that lets you leave Spain and come back within 90 days while your card is in renewal, extension or replacement. Without it, an expired card at the border is a problem you do not want at the end of a 14-hour flight. Checked 15 September 2026 against the Policía Nacional sede electrónica page for the procedure and its fee form.
Does this apply to me
The police page names three situations:
- Your residence or stay authorisation is in the renewal or extension period, and you can show you filed the renewal within the legal window.
- Your TIE is valid but was stolen, lost, destroyed or damaged, and you have applied for a duplicate.
- Form EX-13 adds a further box for someone with a first authorisation whose card is still being issued, “concurriendo razones excepcionales” — where exceptional reasons exist. That box needs a reason; the first two do not.
If you filed your renewal late, or have not filed it at all, the first ground is not met. Talk to SAIER before you book a flight.
What to bring
The police page lists two documents:
- Form EX-13, “Solicitud de autorización de regreso”, completed and signed.
- Proof of payment of tasa 790 código 012.
Take your passport, your TIE (expired or not), and the receipt showing your renewal or duplicate application was filed, since the page says you must prove the renewal was started in time. Ask when you book whether the office wants anything else.
What it costs
€10.72, the “Autorización de regreso” line on the Policía Nacional 790-012 fee form, read 15 September 2026. Paid at a bank on the printed form.
Where to go, and how to book
In person — the page says the procedure is done personally — at any Oficina de Extranjería or police office, with a cita previa from the official site. In Barcelona that means booking through the same sede electrónica cita previa page as the huella appointment, choosing the return-authorisation procedure.
How long it takes
The document allows one departure and return within 90 days. No processing time is published; book the appointment as soon as you know you will travel, not the week before.
What goes wrong
- Assuming the receipt of a renewal application is enough to get back in. The receipt proves the filing; the autorización de regreso is the document for the border.
- Sending a scan of your passport and TIE to an agent who promises to arrange it. No office needs an unredacted copy from a stranger, and the procedure is done in person by you.
- Letting the 90 days run out in Manila. The return window is counted from the document, not from your ticket.
