How do I check whether a balikbayan-box forwarder is legitimate?

Ask the Spain agent for the exact Philippine forwarder or deconsolidator that will receive the box, then compare that pairing with the current DTI/FTEB list before paying. A familiar brand name, social-media page or Barcelona phone number does not by itself prove the sea-freight chain is accredited.

The 31 March 2026 DTI/FTEB list pairs UMAC Express Cargo in Madrid with U MAC Forwarders Express. It lists six Barcelona-area foreign-agent pairings, shown in the padala guide. LBC’s live Spain pages were active and published Barcelona contacts, but the current DTI Spain rows checked did not visibly pair LBC; ask LBC to identify the receiving Philippine forwarder and verify that name.

Get a receipt showing the forwarder, consignee, box or tracking number, declared contents and value. Ask for exclusions, insurance or liability limit, claim deadline, expected container schedule and who handles last-mile delivery.
